Construction to Start on Eighth Avenue Place

Alberta Investment Management Corp., Ivanhoe Cambridge and Matco Investments Ltd., the co-owners of Eighth Avenue Place in Calgary, Alberta, are expecting to start construction on the development's new 40-storey west tower. The 850,000-square-foot office building is expected to be completed and ready for occupancy in spring 2014.
The two towers that comprise Eighth Avenue Place will provide two million square feet of commercial office space for Calgary’s business community. The towers will also provide the surrounding area with two levels of retail and hospitality space.

Loy Sullivan, the Director of Leasing of 20 Vic Management Inc., who represents the co-owners says of the development, “We’re delighted to make this announcement and to be moving forward with construction of this second tower to complete Eighth Avenue Place, cementing its place in the Calgary skyline. We congratulate all of our Eighth Avenue Place stakeholders on this achievement and look forward to completing the second tower and welcoming tenants in 2014.”
The development was designed by architecture firm, Pickard Chilton, along with development management supplied by Hines. Construction firm, EllisDon ,was tapped to build the towers.
The first phase of the development, a 49-storey, 1.1-million-square-foot office tower, was the first high-rise building in Canada and third in North America to be awarded with a LEED Platinum pre-certification.
