Fred Leber Named New ULC Committee Chair

Canada’s national association for geothermal heat pumps well prepared to face new challenges
Fred Leber has been named the incoming Chair of the ULC Committee on Fire Alarm and Life Safety Equipment and Systems. Chair of 21 years Richard Morris formally announced his retirement at the Committee meeting on October 6, 2011. In honour of his dedication and to recognize his contributions, Mr. Morris was honoured by ULC with a Certificate of Appreciation.
Incoming chair Mr. Leber brings with him a wealth of expertise and knowledge in the field, as he is the current Chair of both CAC/ISO/TC21 (Equipment for Fire Protection and Fire Fighting) and CAC/ISO/TC21/SC3 (Fire Alarm Detection and Alarm systems) Committees, as well as the Co-Chair of NEMA UL/ULC Technical Harmonization Coordinating Committee. Mr. Leber is also the founder and CEO of Leber/Rubes Inc. (LRI), Fire Protection and Building Code Consulting Engineers.
The ULC Committee develops standards, guidelines, methods of tests, installations, building/facility commissioning and other significant requirements for life safety related to fire protection, detection and signaling equipment and systems. The most recent ULC Committee meeting on October 6, 2011 was held in order to review the status of more than thirty standards and related documents.
