Property Management is Second Happiest Job in America
April 12, 2012
In a recent survey from online jobs site CareerBliss.com, property managers were ranked second in having the happiest careers in the United States. Property managers noted both the people they work with and what they do as the primary drivers of their happiness. The second spot was tied with executive chefs and both were only surpassed by software quality assurance engineers. The survey aimed to determine the 20 happiest careers in America. Property managers had the distinction of appearing twice in CNN’s and Money magazine’s annual ranking of the 50 “Best Jobs in America.”
IREM 2012 President James A. Evans, CPM, says, “Being in a rewarding career and operating in a collegial work environment truly is a winning combination for those in any job sector. Property managers, now recognized again as among the happiest of workers, enjoy the many benefits of this happiness in their jobs. Experts tell us that happy workers are more creative, efficient, healthy and congenial with clients and colleagues. They are better communicators, higher energy and more committed to their jobs. We would welcome others to share our happiness as property managers.”
The “happiest jobs in America” career list was based on an analysis by CareerBliss of more than 100,400 employee-generated reviews between February of last year up until January 2012. Employers were asked to rate 10 factors that affect workplace happiness, such as relationships with co-workers and employers, work environment, compensation, growth opportunities etc. The employees marked values for each factor, highlighting how important each one was to their overall work contentedness. The numbers were then combined to find an average rating of overall employee happiness, then sorted by job title to find which occupations had the most positive results.
